My Story
I am Into Your Skin.
I make handcrafted skincare products in Strahan, Tasmania using natural and organic base oils, butters, waxes, herbs, essential oils and a variety of other raw foods that are great for your skin. I only blend in small batches so everything is fresh.
I first became interested in what we put into our skin a few years ago when I lived off grid in the middle of the Tasmanian bush and realised that skin products available to us in the shops were full of ingredients I just didn't understand and creams that did not work. Further investigation (www.davidsuzuki.org) horrified me! "Some of the ingredients in beauty products aren't that pretty. U.S. researchers report that one in eight of the 82,000 ingredients used in personal care products are industrial chemicals, including carcinogens, pesticides, reproductive toxins, and hormone disruptors. Many products include plasticizers (chemicals that keep concrete soft), degreasers (used to get grime off auto parts), and surfactants (they reduce surface tension in water, like in paint and inks). Imagine what that does to your skin, and to the environment."
After much research it became obvious to me that there are other ways to protect and nourish your skin. Much of what you put on your skin is absorbed so if you keep it natural and organic, that will help to keep you healthy too. Beautiful skin and a healthy life. Sounds okay to me and once you start using natural and organic products on your skin and see the benefits you will be hooked. Just try it, there's a lot to lose.
I only use containers that can later be reused or recycled. My labels are either made by me from recycled paper or made by a company that are environmentally responsible using recycled paper, solar power, benign press chemicals and non toxic/vegie inks. I use recycled paper and cardboard for my packaging and am content in knowing Into Your Skin is helping in a small way to preserve native forests, water and our environment. I make a non-petroleum jelly that I use in my Babies Bottom Cream. I donate a softer version of this cream to a Tasmanian animal carer of orphaned wild life. She tells me that after 30 odd years in the business this cream is the best she has ever used on burnt and damaged skin. Her babies now have a higher survival rate and she uses the same cream on her own skin :)
